From my mid forties to my fifties, my life became a chamber of horrors. I existed in the land of travail. My lawyer asked me if I felt like Job. For a while I was inconsolable and drowned myself in a pity part of mammoth proportions. Nothing was going right in my life. My family was under unbelievable attack. I was physically ill and had several injuries that left me in chronic pain. As if that weren’t enough, let me tell you, the devil wants your money because he knows it will multiply your sorrows. For the first time in decades, I worried about money. Then I worried because I wasn’t supposed to worry. Fretting and staying up nights worrying about everything I was going through meant I didn’t trust God and I was afraid He would punish my lack of faith. I’m going to be honest with you even though it makes me look silly and self-centered. I was too used to being rich-I wondered how I could be normal. I didn’t know how to live without servants and a big house. I mean, I hadn’t been in a supermarket or drugstore for over twenty years and I didn’t even know where the spatula in my kitchen was. I discovered my sons had no idea I could actually cook.

I felt age creeping up on me. I had been basically unemployed since I was in my late twenties. What happened to all my goals and dreams? I wanted to write novels and in twenty years all I had written were letters. Then God struck me with lightening. He told me to write a screenplay about a certain subject. I told Him I didn’t know how to write a screenplay. He told me not to worry, He did. If I had known then that only 1.1% of all screenwriters ever get a movie made, I might have refused to listen. But God never lets go. If you want to do something you’ve never done, if you have an impossible dream, if God wants to lift you up even though you’re reluctant, then let me tell you how to start. Because I know that it doesn’t matter what you know or don’t know. As the Lord said, “He uses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise.” That’s why He chose me.
