I grew up
in a 900 square foot house with three
bedrooms and one bathroom where I lived
with my grandparents, my aunt, my
mother, my father, my brother, and at
one time with another aunt and uncle. I
didn’t know I was poor because everyone
around me lived the way I did. When TV
entered our home, so did the realization
that the “normal” American family had
much more than I did. Because my
grandfather was a pastor, I thought I
could pray for anything. I prayed to be
like the people on TV. In my early
thirties, I lived in an 18,000 square
foot house on the beach with two tennis
courts, three swimming pools, and a
staff of servants. I’d call that a
financial miracle, wouldn’t you? But
things are never the way it seemed. God
wants to prosper you but the prosperity
of your soul is more important.
